"Grandma's Square Sunburst" is a crochet pattern that creates a square motif with a sunburst-like design. Here are the general instructions for creating this type of motif: 

Materials: 

  • Crochet hook (size according to your yarn weight) 
  • Yarn (choose your preferred color or colors)

Instructions:

Begin with a slip knot on your crochet hook. 
 
Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. 

Round 1: Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet), work 15 double crochets into the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-3. You should have a total of 16 double crochets.


Round 2: Chain 4 (this counts as your first treble crochet), treble crochet in the same stitch, chain 2, skip 1 stitch, (double crochet, chain 2, treble crochet) in the next stitch Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-4. 

Round 3: Slip stitch into the next chain-2 space, chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet), work 2 double crochets into the same chain-2 space, chain 2, (3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets) in the next chain-2 space Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-3.

Round 4: Slip stitch into the next 2 double crochets and into the chain-2 space, chain 4 (counts as your first treble crochet), treble crochet in the same chain-2 space, chain 2, (treble crochet, chain 2, treble crochet) in the next chain-2 space Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-4. 

Round 5: Slip stitch into the next treble crochet and into the chain-2 space, chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet), work 4 double crochets into the same chain-2 space, chain 2, (5 double crochets in the next chain-2 space) Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-3.

You can continue adding rounds to increase the size of your square or finish off with a slip stitch and weave in ends.
